Week 24 – If they can do it

I have lots of things I want to blog about, but today I want to share something I did this week 🙂

This is actually me speaking! It is at a Toastmaster contest and I tailored the content as such. Think about your own life and insert people you know who have achieved what you want 😉 I was actually really nervous, but stepping out taking action towards my dreams! I hope it inspires you.

While I was preparing it, I started thinking to myself… maybe I am ‘the one’, at least in my own life. Perhaps you are as well 😉

Week 23 – Spiritual Spacewalk?

This week Charles Haanel in week 23 of the Master Key System has this exercise for us:

“22. This week concentrate on the fact that man is not a body with a spirit, but a spirit with a body, and that it is for this reason that his desires are incapable of any permanent satisfaction in anything not spiritual.”

I was meditating on this today and had some thoughts come to me 🙂
Recently my wife had me watch this movie called Gravity. It had incredible effects, cinematography and a nice heroes journey story that will pull on your heart strings. Essentially it is about being in space and an image I often think of is the astronaut in space wearing their suit, tethered by a long oxygen support cable to the space station.

So take that picture and imagine that our physical bodies are our space suits and we are a spiritual being having a physical experience! We are spirit in essence and tethered to our true source. ( Of course we don’t see the tether support cable and most people have completely forgotten it exists.)
Think about this metaphor for a moment……   Some people like to decorate their suit 🙂 Others may find ways to let their light shine and even connect spirit to spirit with those they encounter.
We often begin to identify more with the suit we wear and the tasks we perform more than our true nature. The golden Buddha…

Perhaps this means that meditating is like being quiet, sitting still and listening through our air hose to hear the wisdom and directions from the station 🙂

Changing gears for a moment:
I was talking with my brother yesterday and he shared how he was having physical ailments. He had gone to the clinic and they could find nothing wrong with him physically and had started asking emotional questions. I was reminded that if we are truly spiritual beings having a physical experience, then the problem and solution lies in the spirit…  I learnt about German new medicine a few years back and how Dr. Hamer lost his son in a tragic accident and then contracted cancer. In treating himself, nothing worked, until he found peace in his son’s death and then the cancer left him!  He started using what he learned from that with his patients and discovered they all had painful emotional experiences before they got sick. He has an incredible success rate, but of course the modern medical community has stripped his credentials and persecuted his work. Interestingly enough, Haanel in week 22 talks about mental therapeutics and how medicine needs to embrace these truths to provide true healing!

I actually remember telling my brother a few years ago that it was he was dying of terminal uniqueness…  I believe he still doesn’t see how we are not alone, but connected and just having a physical experience as spiritual beings.

Back to the spacewalk metaphor and in taking it further, we can see how everyone is connected to each other and each is connected to the infinite source and spirit!  Imagine how the world would change if we all saw the truth about what we are truly experiencing…

Week 22A – I Found My Gift!

The famous Pablo Picasso said,
“The meaning of life is to find your gift.  The purpose of life is to give it away.”
As I was thinking about this incredibly powerful statement and wondering what my true gift is, it hit me!
I AM!!!

I am my gift to the world 😀  How incredible is that??  I know I have some gifts and talents, things I love to do, whether it is playing hockey or being a dad or speaking, but it is sooooo much more than that!  Even twice a year when we go out and I get to do some wild dancing and entertain everyone else lol.  Just being me…
I got this very cool email a couple days later as a nice confirmation:

“A coincidence?

chad, do you think it’s just a coincidence that you look exactly as you do?

Do you think your height, the color of your eyes, or the sound of your voice were accidents?

Do you think your insights into life, your gifts of perception, or your sense of humor were the result of random genetics?

No. You are exactly as you now are, with every freckle, trait, and charm, because they all added up to how you could make the biggest difference with your life in time and space, while having the most fun.

In appreciation,
The Universe

And, chad, you’re doing it.”

Love it!
So, now that I found/realized I am my gift, it’s time to give it away!  I see myself viewing every single human interaction differently…  What am I really offering people?  ME.  What can make someone else’s day?  ME.  What is the one thing that can help the world most?  ME.

Tie this in with Og Mandino and I AM THE GREATEST SALESMAN IN THE WORLD, because I am offering people something that NO ONE else can, namely ME.

As I just chip away the concrete surrounding the golden buddha to reveal more of the true me, letting my light shine and sharing the most precious and powerful gift I have to give the world…it moves me to tears of gratitude as the fears and doubts fade away.

I found my gift, how about you?

Week 22 – In Silence

So, we got this strange challenge this week:

Could you do that?  Imagine, not talking, not texting, eliminating all internet, noise, tv, radio, music, talking for an entire day…  And how?? lol.  I have created a hectic life for myself where this could be a challenge 😛

Okay, let’s say that you wanted to.  If you have a job, you most likely need to talk to people, do email, etc, so that would be almost impossible.  Even at your home on a day off, do you have a family or a business or life happening with ?  I have decided that I want to, so I am seeing if it will work with my family or perhaps I just take a vacation day.

I do find this to be a HUGE step even though I have actually been moving in this direction for a while now.  I have significantly cut out of a lot of the world’s noise.  I do my best to avoid TV, news, radio, gossip, but do occasionally like to chill out with some mindless entertainment.  I did logout of facebook on my phone almost 2 weeks ago and it is so INCREDIBLY Freeing!  Wow, the peace of mind is hard to convey, after how I would be constantly, constantly checking my phone.  Sometimes now I pull my phone out, smile and put it away 🙂  I also put it on airplane mode at night so that I don’t get any messages or email or beeps until I’m ready to turn it on in the morning.  I think I’m going to wait until even later in the mornings before turning it back on.

However, I am constantly listening and filling my mind with audios to learn and grow.  So, I thought I would start by unplugging in my car.

CHATTER!!!  Did you know that your brain thinks at 1,200 words per minute??  So, first the chatter of my mind starts, then I start thinking about the chatter going on in my head 😛

Even though I am introvert, could I handle even a couple of hours of complete silence and unplugging?  lol, I’m not sure, as I could imagine going crazy, suffocating in silence.  But I do want to try.

Millions long for immortality who don’t know what to do on a rainy Sunday afternoon. – Susan Ertz

So, why would someone want to be in silence?  Do you remember how Jesus spent 40 days alone in the wilderness?  The claim is that this challenge will help cut through the all of the noise and allow you to start actually feeling, being and getting in touch with your true self.  Breaking out of the cement covering the golden buddha.

What if you could claim your true power, would it be worth it to go into the silence?  Let me know your experiences and I will share mine! 🙂

Week 21 – Will this matter in 5 years?

This week I had the opportunity to visit with a very successful couple and one of the nuggets they shared about their success was this:

“Will this matter in 5 years?”

They started asking themselves this question with every issue they were facing and EVERYTHING changed in their life!

It is simple and powerful, like the book: “Don’t sweat the small stuff! And it’s all small stuff.” 🙂

Take any issue you might be facing right now and ask yourself if it will really matter a few years from now?

I found it tied in really well with Haanel’s thoughts from The Master Key System week 21:

6. Large ideas have a tendency to eliminate all smaller ideas so that it is well to hold ideas large enough to counteract and destroy all small or undesirable tendencies. This will remove innumerable petty and annoying obstacles from your path. You also become conscious of a larger world of thought, thereby increasing your mental capacity as well as placing yourself in position to accomplish something of value.

7. This is one of the secrets of success, one of the methods of organizing victory, one of the accomplishments of the Master-Mind. He thinks big thoughts. The creative energies of mind find no more difficulty in handling large situations, than small ones. Mind is just as much present in the Infinitely large as in the Infinitely small.

When we think BIG thoughts, the small stuff all fades away!  And if we are going to invest our time thinking, why not think big?  I believe this connects well with starting with the end in mind and determining our Definite Major Purpose in life.  When you know exactly what you want your life to look like in 5 years from now, then you can ask yourself if whatever you are dealing with right now will be in that future or even matter 🙂

Week 20 – GOD IN YOU?

STOP!Get ready for this thought that blew my mind!!

In the Master Key System Week 20, we read:

31. For your exercise this week, go into the Silence and concentrate on the fact that “In Him we live and move and have our being” is literally and scientifically exact! That you ARE because He IS, that if He is Omnipresent He must be in you. That if He is all in all you must be in Him! That He is Spirit and you are made in “His image and likeness” and that the only difference between His spirit and your spirit is one of degree, that a part must be the same in kind and quality as the whole. When you can realize this clearly you will have found the secret of the creative power of thought, you will have found the origin of both good and evil, you will have found the secret of the wonderful power of concentration, you will have found the key to the solution of every problem whether physical, financial, or environmental.

As I was mediating on this today, it really hit me!  I’ve grown up in a spiritual home(not a typical church type), being very familiar with scriptures and having some incredible spiritual experiences, so a lot of things came to mind, but in a new understanding…

How many times have we heard and said, “God is everywhere.”  If He is truly Omnipresent, then everywhere includes inside of you and I!  STOP.  God IS IN YOU!  Think about that…  What more do you need, when God is in you??

Here are a couple of bible verses I googled 🙂

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”  Joshua 1:9

“Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

“Be strong and courageous.  Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you.  He will not leave you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 3:16

“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16

We think of ourselves as being made in “God’s image” and He is with us, but we are truly made of HIM and His Spirit is within our very cells!  Jesus said that we would do greater miracles than He did, and why can’t we when we are made of the same source 🙂  In fact, if you study Argon molecules, we are breathing a few of the very same atoms that Jesus breathed when he was alive 😉

The bible also speaks of nature and how the very trees and rocks cry out.  If God is everywhere…  Brother Lawrence was 18 years old when he passed by a barren tree in the winter and in that moment saw God and his life was forever changed.  I do see God in the magnificence of nature and now it is clear why!

A challenge for us is to look more closely and truly see God in everyone we deal with, especially those who have buried it a bit deeper 😉

I could go on and on regarding this exciting discovery and I hope you dwell further on it as well!  Did you know that the meaning of the word Enthusiam is “God within us”?  A way that we express that spirit within us.  Ultimately, I hope you begin to realize that God truly is with you and that all you need, you already have access to!

Blessings, chad :^D

PS:  A bonus mantra you may want to use: “All I need is within me now!”

Week 19 – I AM!

We had a fantastic homework assignment to watch either “Finding Joe” or “I AM” and I chose “I AM” and was really touched by it!

Tom Shadyac was not actually a name I recognized, but I knew his films like Ace Ventura with Jim Carrey 🙂  He was on top of the world with his career in Hollywood until he had a serious accident on his mountain bike.  Through a very painful process where he wanted to die, he realized might have missed something and set out to document a journey talking to key science and spiritual leaders around the world, asking them what is wrong with the world.

There really is a lot of great information in this movie that will blow you away and I wanted to briefly share a few notes I made while watching it:

“The basis of nature is cooperation and democracy.”  This is really profound point that shifted my thinking!  When we realize that we are all connected, everything we do changes the meaning we have previously attached to it…  Did you know that Darwin is quoted how he identified ‘survival of the fittest’, which he mentioned twice in his book, but in the same book he talked about LOVE 95 times!!

Mirrored Neurons…  Wow.

The Vagus Nerve.  This is triggered by simply seeing someone else helping…  We are wired for compassion in our very DNA!

The HeartMath Institute (which I have been following for a few years now) showed actual lab tests with Tom and how his strong feelings influenced living cultures around him…  Our hearts generate an electromagnetic field, different from an aura, but that does interact with everything around us!  Interestingly enough, our hearts send more communication to the brain than comes from the brain to the heart.  When we feel anger, it is so strong an emotion that it shuts down our brain functions and makes us stupid.  BAM!

Quantum Entanglement…  I enjoy quantum physics and this is incredible to learn about.

Have you heard of the random number generators around the world that synchronize around major world events??  Mind boggling evidence of how strong emotions influence the entire world…

I picked a few things I want to research more myself:  Noetic Sciences, Argon molecules, Rumi’s poems.

So, are we just robots made out of meat with no meaning or purpose?  Or perhaps we are all connected…  In nature, nothing takes more than it needs, except for cancer…

The movie ties together at the end with the Power of One 🙂  Have you ever thought of the ocean as just drops of water that have come together?  You cannot be neutral on a moving train.  We each have a choice to make.

The movie starts with the question of “What is wrong with the world?” and ends with “What is right with the world?”  I know the answer 😉

Week 18 – If Today Was Your Last…

If today was your last day…  How would you live it?  I find this to be a really difficult question!

Well, first off, I wouldn’t go to work at my JOB!  lol, clearly that says I’m not living my passion each day currently…  I’m good at my job and they pay me well enough but I still have commitments to the bank on the house they let me live in 😛

I would definitely want to forgive everyone and everything in my life and I really try to live that way each day.  Let it all go as I believe most diseases come from holding onto unforgiveness and the feelings that actually rob us of our power and joy in life.

I would want to hold my family tight and not let them go…  but then I would want to laugh and cry and relive our favourite memories together and recount all the joys we have experienced together!  I could hold my own Wake 🙂

I would contact as many people as I could, not to say goodbye, but to let them know how much I appreciate them and positive impact they had in my life.

I would also want to do something extreme that I haven’t done yet, like bungee jumping or sky diving!  Live fully in the moment 🙂  Maybe even play one more hockey game…

I’m sure I wouldn’t be concerned about any world news or latest tv shows or celebrity gossip 😛  Your last day on earth can sure put things into perspective…

I read some obituaries today and most were rather bland, but one really touched me!  Talking about coming to Canada, meeting his wife at an opera, being married for 50 years, starting a business and then farming and truly living a life of meaning…  How do you want to be remembered?

Og Mandino puts it so powerfully in his Scroll V, where he says “I will live this day as if it is my last.”

So, how are you living each day currently and what would you change if you knew it was your last?

Week 17HJ – Your Best?

My wife and I decided early into our daughter’s schooling that we didn’t want to focus on the grade she got, but instead of whether she had done her best.  It took us time and there were challenges as we learned this process together.  At report card time, we didn’t measure A’s and B’s, but how she felt about her effort, results and goals for the next period.  I still remember when she went into Grade 9, having been an A honor roll student for a while, and how surprised we were at report card time to see significantly lower grades and many incomplete assignments!  She was defensive and had a number of excuses of course about how it was too hard and she couldn’t get the same marks as her smarter friends and the teacher wasn’t nice lol.  I will admit that it took a lot longer to get through to her than I expected, but we conveyed that we didn’t care about those things and only wanted to know if it was her best effort.  We insisted that it didn’t matter what her friends did and if her best effort only got her a C or D grade, that we were still proud of her 🙂  She focused a bit more and had some improvement and then some more setbacks.

As an aside, school was always easy for me and I rarely studied or did homework and still got A’s.  My wife struggled mightily and worked her butt off to graduate and her best grade was still lower than my worst grade…  I am very proud of her accomplishment and she always carries that with her, while I just coasted through.  My best friend once said to me that ‘it would be scary to imagine what you could do if you actually applied yourself!’  University was actually harder and required more effort, although I rationalized I could be happy with just enough effort to get B and C’s, to have time for more fun things.

I am pleased to say that our daughter did eventually come around to our view and started getting it her best effort and made grades that she felt good about by the end of the year!  I was actually pleasantly surprised when this year started and she choose to cut back on extracurricular activities so she could focus more on her school.  She set goals for what she wanted to achieve and has been doing very well 🙂

Connecting this to the MKMMA, I heard 2 of my mentors sharing last night and it really caught my attention!  One said,

“You never want to fail because you didn’t work hard enough!”

And the other quoted Rudyard Kipling:

“If you don’t get what you want, it’s a sign either that you did not seriously want it, or that you tried to bargain over the price.”

You see as life passes you by and you don’t get what you truly desire in life, you have no one else to blame but yourself…  Mark J talks about the drifting and letting the exercises slide in the course and I have to admit it has been happening to me.  I can rationalize why I skipped what I was supposed to do:  ‘I didn’t have time.’, ‘It’s not that important.’, ‘I already know what I want.’, ‘I’ll recommit myself tomorrow.’ and so on…  Looking back on my life, I can see many missed opportunities and things that could have changed my life if I had truly gave my best. (Yes, there is a difference between giving your best and doing whatever it takes, perhaps another blog 😉

I really, really do want to fulfill my purpose in life, living my dharma and speaking around the world!  So, I am taking my own advice and recommitting myself to giving my best.  I know that I may not change my world overnight, but when I go to bed, I can feel good about myself and my effort moving forward!  I hope you ask yourself if you are truly giving your best?

Week 17 – Thanks for Sharing

So, a friend told my wife about this movie and she wanted to watch it. (Everybody does network marketing, some people get paid for it)  It was called Thanks for Sharing and it was not at all what I expected!  It was a very graphic and real portrayal of addiction, specifically sex addiction.
I found it very interesting as it followed 3 main characters throughout the show and the challenges they faced.  A very strong part of the show was how the 12 step program(Remember Emmet Fox and the millions he has influenced?) was crucial to their success and the relationships they had built on their journies.  As I have not done a 12 step program personally, but I doknow people who have and it gave me a lot more insight into their experience and what it must have been like for them!  The portayal was powerful in how easily the smallest thing could trigger their addiction to take over and you could see them going through the different stages.  I was impressed with the ability they developed in being able start observing themselves and mechanisms for getting help when they needed it.
Of course, now we understand how our peptides become addicted and how powerful their pull is on us!  My wife made a very powerful statement in how she believes that ‘all addiction is based in self-hatred’ and I found that to be very profound.  If you can deal with your true self and finally love who you are, I bet the unhealthy addictions will hold no more power over you! (I’ve seen it happen.)  What do you think?
Being honest, I have actually struggled with addictions over the years…  Fortunately, I have been blessed by loved ones and did not suffer huge losses from these addictions, but it definitely impacted me in significant ways.  I do have an obsessive personality and can be prone to losing track of reality and my loved ones.  In fact, this week was hard emotionally on me and it’s so easy to go back to past habits and behaviours that can numb your feelings and provide the illusion of escape.  The cool thing of watching the movie is that you can see the big picture and know where the path is heading, even when you cannot change the outcome.  Even cooler is that we have the ability, to be the director of our own life!
I do appreciate the MKMMA course as it is like our 12 step program for breaking the addiction to our old blueprint that has controlled our life and results!  We have a wonderful community and tools to constantly help us control our thoughts and remember our true nature and desires 🙂  I am grateful for you who are sharing your journeys along the way and helping me to be a better man!  The tagline sums it up:
“Life is a journey you never have to take alone.”
